Moore Street Market Renovation

Brooklyn, NY

The New York City Economic Development Corporation (NYCEDC) has engaged
Armand Corporation to oversee the design and construction for the roof and
skylight replacement at Moore Street Market. This market, a cornerstone of
Latino culture in the East Williamsburg section of Brooklyn, serves as a vital
social and economic hub for the local community. The owner’s vision is to
upgrade the aging structure, enhancing its functionality and appeal to better
serve the community.

The building, a single-story structure with a mezzanine and basement, spans
approximately 15,000 square feet. It was constructed in 1943 as part of a
city-wide initiative to transition pushcart vendors off the streets. In the early
1990s, NYCEDC invested approximately $2.5 million to renovate the market,
creating 26 stalls.

Armand Corporation will be assisting with the design development and
managing the construction and associated coordination for the owner. The
scope of work includes assisting in the conceptualization and planning of the
roof and skylight replacements, overseeing all construction activities to ensure
timely and budget-compliant completion, and managing all associated tasks
and stakeholders to maintain seamless project execution.

The detailed scope of work includes performing abatement work to ensure a
safe working environment, removing the existing roofing system down to the
concrete base, and completely replacing the skylight. Additionally, all roof –
mounted equipment will be carefully removed, and temporary protection
will be provided for sprinkler pipes and ductwork to prevent damage during
construction.

Armand Corporation will then install a new cold fluid-applied resin roofing
system, providing enhanced durability and weather resistance. The installation
of new rooftop skylights will not only improve natural lighting but also add a
modern touch to the institution’s architecture. After the roofing and flashing
installations, the active roof-mounted equipment will be reinstalled. To ensure
safety, a new ladder and guardrail will also be installed, meeting the latest
industry standards and regulations.
